"asus eee tablet"Contrary to what we heard a few days ago, the Asus Eee Tablet is likely to start at $300. A couple of days ago, DigiTimes had reported that the Eee Tablet could sell for ‘under $599′ which would make it ridiculously pricey considering the fact that it is basically an ebook reader.

The Asus Eee Tablet is not a tablet PC. It is a note taking device and an ebook reader. It has an 8 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels with support for 64 shades of gray.

Unlike Amazon’s Kindle, the Eee Tablet doesn’t have an E Ink display which can run for days on end without charging. But since Eee Tablet’s LCD display is not backlit, it should get decent battery life. On the bright side, the Eee Tablet will have a much faster screen refresh rate than an E Ink display. It can also be used for taking notes using the highly accurate stylus. The Tablet will also have a web browser and WiFi capabilities.

The Asus Eee Tablet is primarily aimed at students. It will run a custom Linux operating system developed by Asus.

Update: The Asus Eee Tablet may be renamed Asus Eee Note before launch.
