With its twin 14 inch touchscreen displays, the Acer Iconia Touchbook isn’t all that portable. But it is one of the most unusual netbooks around. The computer was first introduced last year. And now Acer says that the Iconia Touchbook will go on sale in the US and Canada in April. The machine will have a price tag of around $1200. When the lid is closed, the Acer Iconia Touchbook doesn’t look all that different from a laptop. But open the lid and you will find a touchscreen where you would normally expect a keyboard. The laptop has impressive specs. It has an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 640GB hard drive. Other specifications include a 1.3 megapixel webcam, VGA, HDMI and WiFi 802.11b/g/n. The Acer Iconia Touchbook runs Windows 7 operating system. It comes with a touch-friendly web-browser and a host of touchscreen apps.

The Acer Aspire One D255E with the dual core Intel Atom N570 processor is now available from Amazon.com for $330. The netbook has been available for a while with Atom N455 and N550 processors. Now Acer has updated it with the brand new Atom N570 which has a clock speed of 1.66GHz.

Meanwhile the original Aspire One D255 has had its price dropped to about $270. Aside from the changes in the processor, both models have identical specs including a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixels display, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250GB hard drive, WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Windows 7 Starter Edition operating system. The Aspire One D255E and D255 come standard with a 6-cell battery which will reportedly get around 8 hours of battery life.

The Acer Aspire One 522 is the first mini-laptop to ship in the US with an AMD C-50 dual core Ontario processor. The 1GHz AMD C-50 processor comes bundled with the Radeon HD 6250 graphics. In overall performance, the C-50 is unlikely to deliver better results than the dual core Atom processor. But the Radeon HD 6250 graphics that comes with the processor is much more powerful than the GMA 3150 integrated graphics you find in most Atom powered netbooks.

That means the Aspire One 522 will be able to handle 1080p HD video. It also has an HDMI output port to take advantage of its graphics capabilities. The Aspire One 522 also has a 1280 x 720 pixels HD display for viewing 720p videos.

The Acer Aspire One 522 netbook with AMD Ontario APU has started shipping in the US. Amazon is selling the netbook for $330. It is available in Diamond Black and Olive Green.

The Aspire One 522 has a 1GHz AMD C-50 dual core processor and Radeon HD 6250 graphics that comes bundled with it. Needless to say it can handle 1080p HD video without breaking a sweat. You will also be able to indulge in some modest gaming. The Aspire One 522 also has 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, Windows 7 Starter Edition and WiFi 802.11b/g/n. The netbook’s 10.1 inch display has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

By the way, the Aspire One 522 is the first netbook to ship in the US with the dual core AMD Zacate processor. The only other netbook having the same processor is the Toshiba NB550D, but it is unlikely to be available in the US.

Acer has unveiled its newest netbook. The machine called Aspire One E100 Education is aimed at students. It has a 10.1 inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and can dual boot Windows 7 and Android.
The Aspire One E100 has many student friendly features including a rubberized coating for bump protection, and a pocket into which students can slot their name card.

Now for the specs, the netbook has a 250GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi b/g/n and a multi format memory card reader. It has an Atom processor, but we don’t know which one. Acer says that the netbook will get around 8 hours of battery life.

As for software, the netbook comes pre-loaded with a number of free education apps including Acer’s Classroom Manager app which allows a teacher to remotely interact with multiple student systems. No word on pricing or availability at the moment.
