Samsung Introduces the Series 5 and 7

Samsung continues to offer a solid line of Ultrabooks and laptops with its Series 5 and 7 lines. The market for smaller, faster, more dynamic computers is growing at breakneck speeds. If it’s hard for consumers to stay on top of trends, it is equally hard for manufacturers to stay ahead of the curve and offer products that will have some sort of lasting effecting on the market.

For those who want portability but still are not ready to give up the power and versatility of a traditional laptop, the Samsung Series 7 Chronos might be for you. The new line of netbooks and Ultrabooks are continually offering greater diversity, but many still cannot compete with the old faithfuls in the 14-inch plus range. Enter the Samsung Series 7 Chronos.

Samsung Series 7 Chronos

The Chronos is a sleek looking machine with a brushed aluminum finish that makes it look like a DeLorean time machine. But this attractive laptop has more than just polished good looks. It also delivers on the computational side. The high-end model sports an Intel 2.2GHz Core i7-2675QM CPU with integrated HD Graphics 3000, Radeon HD 6750M GPU, 8GB of RAM, 7200RPM-750GB HDD, and 8GB of flash memory on the motherboard. The Samsung Series 7 Chronos also has an impressive battery life of almost 6 hours and a 15.6-inch 1600 x 900 matte-finish LCD display, which is a nice, unreflective touch.

All this translates into a device that offers very respectable computing power that will surely please those who are looking for a little extra punch than what netbooks and Ultrabooks have to offer. And with a sticker price of around $1000, it makes the Samsung Series 7 a tough competitor to beat.

Samsung Series 5

The Samsung Series 5 brand was used previously for the Samsung Chromebooks, those little ‘laptops’ that could (and that carried the Linux-based Chrome OS). The new Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook comes in at 13.3 inches with a 500GB/16 GB hybrid drive, Core i5-2467M, 4GB DDR3, and a 1366 x 768 LED display that can be connected to a TV via WiDi (Wireless Display).

Again, what do the numbers mean? Well, for its reported $900 price tag, you will be getting a very portable device that does not skimp on power. As this is still a “coming soon” product, its full capabilities remain to be seen. But you can bet that this Samsung Series 5 will be a nice little addition to the netbook/Ultrabook scene.

The Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series is now up for pre-order from several retailers in the US for prices ranging between $670 and $760. The tablet-cum-laptop is expected to start shipping by the end of March.

The most distinguishing feature of the Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series is its slide-out keyboard. It is a novel take on the convertible tablet style notebook concept. When you want to use the computer as a laptop all you need to do is to slide the keyboard out. And when you don’t want to use the keyboard, you can push it back and it will hide behind the display. The whole design is very compact which means that the Sliding PC 7 is a lot more portable than a typical convertible.

The Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series has a 10.1 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It is powered by a 1.5GHz Intel Atom Z670 Oak Trail processor. The computer runs Windows 7 Home Premium and comes standard with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a 3-cell battery.
