"intel atom n550"Intel has officially unveiled its dual core Atom N550 processor for netbooks. While the press release seems to suggest that a dozen new netbooks with the said processor are in the stores today, the truth is that you still can’t purchase an Atom N550 netbook at the moment. But you should be able to pick up one of these little machines in the coming weeks.

Intel says that PC makers like Acer, Asus, Fujitsu, Lenovo, LG, Samsung, MSI and Toshiba are all building netbooks with the new processor. While detailed specifications of the processor are not yet available, it reportedly runs at 1.5GHz and features 512KB of L2 cache. It also features hyperthreading capabilities which means that you should get a decent performance boost while performing tasks that require multi-tasking. The battery life is expected to be on par with what we normally get from an Atom N450 processor.
