Intel has been churning our Classmate PC Designs since early 2008. These netbooks are durable and relatively low cost making them ideal for use in classroom settings. In fact, the Intel Classmate PCs are a response to the OLPC (One Laptop per Child) XO laptop.intel-classmate

The earliest Classmate models weren’t very impressive, but over the years Intel improved them considerably by adding a larger keyboard and touchpad and a touchscreen display and swivel.

The company unveiled the latest version of its Classmate PC at CeBIT this week. The new model is equipped with a 10.1 inch touchscreen display and an Intel Atom 1.66GHz N450 processor. The netbook sports a rubberized case with a handle. The resistive touchscreen accepts stylus outputs. It doesn’t recognize multitouch gestures. The webcam at the top of the display can be rotated.

Intel only builds the design. It doesn’t build the PCs itself. But you should be able to see OEMs selling the device in a month or two.
