Vizio Makes a Move Out of Television…

Well, sort of—Vizio, the Irvine, California–based consumer electronics company, announced at this year’s recently-wrapped CES its intention to enter the Ultrabook and laptop market. However, don’t call their beautifully-designed ultraportable laptops an Ultrabook. Although Vizio promises to have specs that exceed Intel’s definition of what constitutes an Ultrabook, Vizio has chosen to go with the “Thin + Light” name.

There is already talk of a new Windows OS looming on the horizon. As sure as night follows day, users of Windows 7 will eventually make the switch to Windows 8. It’s not a matter of if, but of when.

There are over 1 billion computers currently running globally. Take a moment to digest that number. Apple’s share is about 5 percent. What does this mean? Over 900 million computers currently run some version of Windows. There is no question that the upcoming version of Windows will become the dominant OS globally. It is inevitable.

What remains to be seen is if it will also become the OS of choice for tablet users. The stars seem to be aligning, however, and if recently demoed devices are any indications, there may be one OS to rule them all.
