Sony has started offering VAIO notebooks with AMD Athlon II X2 processors. Both Fry’s and Best Buy have the said machines in stock and prices seem quite attractive.

The 15.5 inch Sony VAIO EE series with 4GB of RAM,  a 320GB hard drive and Blu-ray player is retailing for $650 whereas the 17.3 inch VAIO EF with a 500GB hard drive is going for $720.

The Sony VAIO EE Series runs Windows 7 Home Premium. The notebook ships with a 3500mAh Lithium-ion battery. The 15.5 inch display has 1366 x 768 pixels. The laptop also features the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 integrated graphics. Other specifications include HDMI output, integrated webcam with microphone, memory card reader, 4 USB 2.0 ports, WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Ethernet LAN with RJ-45 connector. The Sony VAIO EE weighs 5.9 lbs.

The Sony VAIO EF notebooks ship with 4GB of RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, Microsoft Office Starter 2010, 500GB hard drive and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics. The 17.3 inch display has 1600 x 900 pixels.

Other features include integrated webcam with microphone, multimedia card reader, SD memory card slot, headphone and mic, 4 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output, Ethernet and WiFi 802.11b/g/n. The 3500mAb battery is expected to provide up to 3 hours of runtime.
