The Acer Aspire One D255E with the dual core Intel Atom N570 processor is now available from Amazon.com for $330. The netbook has been available for a while with Atom N455 and N550 processors. Now Acer has updated it with the brand new Atom N570 which has a clock speed of 1.66GHz.

Meanwhile the original Aspire One D255 has had its price dropped to about $270. Aside from the changes in the processor, both models have identical specs including a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixels display, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250GB hard drive, WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Windows 7 Starter Edition operating system. The Aspire One D255E and D255 come standard with a 6-cell battery which will reportedly get around 8 hours of battery life.

The Acer Aspire One Happy is a mini-laptop notable for its bright colored lids which are available in blue, green, purple, or pink. Aside from the colorful lids, it has regular netbook specs. In fact, the specs of the Aspire One Happy is virtually identical to the Aspire One D255 netbook.

Like the D255, the Aspire One Happy has a 6-cell battery and a dual boot option which lets you run both Windows 7 and Google Android. It is available with either a single core Intel Atom N450 or a dual core Atom N550 processor.

The folks at Notebook Italia got to spend some time with the tablet. They have also posted some photos and videos. Long story short, the Happy is essentially the same machine as the Aspire One D255. It just happens to be a lot more colorful.

The Acer Aspire One D255 is one of the first 10 inch netbooks to ship with a dual core Intel Atom N550 processor. In looks it isn’t all that different from other netbooks Acer introduced this year. But in performance, it does better a typical single core netbook.

Laptop Magazine has posted one of the first reviews of the netbook. On the whole, they found the laptop interesting, but not as interesting as the Acer Aspire One 521.

The Aspire One D255 doesn’t have discrete graphics, but the laptop can handle 720p HD flash video. It, however, struggles with HD Quicktime files. The laptop delivers about 15% better performance than a typical single core netbook in the PCMark05 benchmark test.

Interestingly, the dual core processor doesn’t affect the battery life. The laptop, in fact, gets over 8 hours on a single charge.

The Acer Aspire One D255 retails for about $349. It is a decent machine for that price. But the Aspire One 521, which retails for about $339, has a better CPU and graphics. On the flip side, it gets only around 5 hours of battery life. Meanwhile Acer has said that it will offer an An Android dual boot version of the Aspire D255 in some countries, but USA is not one of them.

The Acer Aspire One D255 dual core Atom netbook is now available for purchase from Home Shopping Network or HSN. It is actually the first netbook to ship with an Atom N550 dual core processor. The Aspire One D255 was announced in July. It is going for $399.90 at HSN.com.

The mini-laptop is equipped with a 10.1 inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. It is available in four colors – red, black, aquamarine, or sandsonte. All four models have an 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 dual core processor, 1GB of DDR3 memory, a 250GB, 5400 rpm hard drive, Intel GMA 3150 integrated graphics, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, 3 USB 2.0 ports, VGA, Ethernet and a 6 cell,4400mAh battery.

So the Asus Eee PC 1015N isn’t the only computer to have dual core Intel Atom processor. The upcoming Acer Aspire One D255 will also have the same Intel Atom N550 dual core processor.

The Aspire One D255 has the same case design as the Aspire one D260. The only major difference is in the processor. The Atom N550 processor has dual 1.5GHz cores with 512KB of L2 cache. Much like other Atom processors, the Atom N550 will also support hyperthreading which may be helpful while performing certain tasks.
