The 14 inch Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420s notebook is now available for purchase in the US. The ThinkPad Edge E420s is aimed at small and medium businesses. It is available with a choice of Intel’s 2nd generation Core i series dual core processors. Other specifications include optional AMD Radeon HD 6630M discrete graphics, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, slot-loading DVD burner and a 48.8 Whr battery that will reportedly get up to 7 hours of battery life.

Available storage options include a traditional hard drive of up to 320GB capacity, an SSD of 128GB capacity or a hybrid storage comprising of an 80GB SSD and a 320GB HDD. The 14 inch Infinity edge-to-edge display has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420s also has a webcam, stereos speakers, Dolby Home Theatre sound technology, optional Bluetooth, WiFi N, optional 3G, Ethernet LAN, HDMI, VGA, 2 USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA/USB 2.0 combo port, a 4-in-1 media card reader and fingerprint sensor.

The ThinkPad Edge E420s runs Windows 7 operating system. It has a spill resistant keyboard, magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis and metal hinges. Prices start at $699 at the Lenovo online store.

Dell’s Vostro 3000 series is the latest laptop lineup to get a Sandy Bridge update. The 13-, 14-, 15- and 17.3 inch Vostro 3000 series laptops are now available with a choice of Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processors. They still sport the same aluminum casing, backlit keyboards and matte displays. Among the new features are SRS Pro sound, HD webcams, and new chiclet style keyboards.

The most impressive feature, of course, is the pricing. The new Vostro 3000 series doesn’t cost more than $600. All four models are available with a selection of Intel Core i5 processors, up to 8GB of RAM, various HDD or SSD options and six and nine-cell batteries. The 17.3 inch Dell Vostro 3750 model is also availale with a quad-core Core i7 processor.

Pricing
The 13 inch Dell Vostro 3350 will have a starting price of $599. The 14 inch Vostro 3450 and 15 inch 3550 both start at $499. The 17.3 inch Vostro 3750 start at $549. Of course, higher-end configurations will carry higher price tags.

System 76 has released what it claims is the world’s most powerful Ubuntu laptop. The Serval Professional as it is called is available with your choice of an Intel Core i7 processor ranging from the 2GHz 2630QM to the 2.5GHz 2920XM. The base model has 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. Other specs are also equally impressive.

The laptop has a 15.6 inch full HD LED backlit glossy display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The graphics department is handled by the nVidia GeForce GTX 485M. Other specifications include WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n, Gigabit LAN, HDMI, DVI-I, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 eSata/USB 2.0 Combo Port, FireWire Port, SD card reader, Headphone Jack, Microphone Jack, S/PDIF Output Jack, Audio Line In, a 2 megapixel built-in webcam and fingerprint reader. The notebook runs Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. Prices start at $1,379.

There is also a slightly lower end model called Gazelle Professional. It offers a more limited range of processors and has a starting price of $1,239.

The Acer Aspire 8950G (Aspire AS8950G-9839) which the company announced at CES yesterday is an 18.4 inch gaming monster with the new Core i7-2630QM quad core processor, ATI Mobility Radeon 6850 graphics and 8GB of RAM.

The Acer Aspire 8950G also has a full 1080p display, a Blu-ray drive, a 750 GB hard drive and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. There is also a second drive bay which you can use to install another HDD or an SSD. An interesting feature of the notebook is its dual-mode touchpad which can be used for navigation and as a media control panel.

In terms of looks the Aspire 8950G isn’t different from the Aspire 8943G.

Pricing and availability
The Acer Aspire 8950G will be available on January 9th for $1599.

Intel is yet to officially launch its Sandy Bridge processors, but that doesn’t prevent HP from listing laptops with the unannounced new Core series processors. An new HP laptop – the Pavilion dv6-4103TX – has just been spotted in Singapore sporting a brand new quad core i7-2630QM processor. This is the same piece of silicon that was found in the specs sheets of Pavilion dv7 not so long ago.

The Core i7-2630QM processor has a standard clock speed of 2GHz, but Turbo Boost will take that up to 2.8GHz. Other specifications of the Pavilion dv6 include 4GB of DDR3 RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6570M graphics and a 15.6 inch display.

Like existing dv6 models, the new HP Pavilion dv6-4103TX also has an aluminium exterior. In terms of looks it is almost identical to the current dv6. The new HP Pavilion dv6 has a list price of 1,899 Singapore dollars (about 1460 USD).
