It can also shoot 3D videos in full HD and transfer 1080p HD video to an external monitor via its HDMI output port. Still $530 seems a lot of money especially when you consider the fact that you will also be paying for monthly data plans over a period of two years.

It is not clear whether LG has plans to offer a WiFi only version of the tablet.

The Asus Eee PC 1015PN has been upgraded with a dual core Atom N570 processor. The Eee PC 1015PN has been available for a while. One of the most powerful netbooks on the market, it launched with a 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 processor and NVIDIA ION graphics. The Atom N570 has a clock speed of 1.66GHz. That said there is no point in expecting a huge boost in performance.

The rest of the specifications haven’t changed. The netbook has 1GB of RAM (it supports up to 2GB), a 250GB hard drive, Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi 802.11b/g/n. In the US the netbook is only available with Windows 7 Starter edition. In many other countries Acer offers the netbook with Windows 7 Home Premium.

It looks like the new model will also be available with 48Whr and 56Whr battery options. No word on the pricing or availability of the new model.

Digitimes report that Intel will launch its Atom N570 processor in February. On the Intel website, there is still no mention of this processor – the only processor listed in the N500 family is the 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550.
It is not clear what makes the N570 different from the N550. It will probably have a faster clock speed. Netbook News reports that it will clock at 1.6GHz.

Meanwhile, Lenovo has already announced that the Atom N570 will be one of the processor options available with its IdeaPad S100. Right now, I don’t see any other PC maker announcing a laptop with this processor. However, Digitimes report that Lenovo, Asus and Samsung will all introduce computers with the new processor in March.

In related news, Intel is expected to launch its next-generation Cedar Trail and Oak Trail chips later this year. These processors are expected to deliver a significant improvement over the Pine Trail processors currently powering most netbooks.

Gigabyte has launched a new netbook. The Gigabyte Q2005 has a dual core 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 processor and a 10.1 inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Other specifications are pretty regular. The laptop has 1GB of DDR3 RAM (up to 2GB supported), a 250GB hard drive (up to 500GB supported), WiFi 802.11b/g/n, optional Bluetooth 3.0, Ethernet, VGA and a 0.3 megapixel camera. Both 3-cell and 6-cell battery options are available.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the Q2005 is its 8-in-1 flash card reader. Netbooks usually only have SD card readers, or maybe SD / MMC / MS readers.

No word on pricing, but the Q2005 should be cheaper than the Gigabyte T1005 convertible which has an HD touchscreen display. The T1005 starts at $579, so the Q2005 should cost a few bucks less.

A new Acer netbook has been spotted. The Acer Aspire One 522 has a 1GHz AMD C-50 Ontario dual core processor and integrated Radeon 6250 graphics with full DirectX 11 support and UVD3 for better hardware-accelerated video.

The AMD Ontario is part of the AMD Fusion platform. This processor is known to deliver significantly better performance than Intel’s Atom processors. Better still, it has a total power draw of 9 watts which means that it will get some pretty decent battery life.

The Aspire One 522 has a 10.1 inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Other specifications include HDMI and VGA out, 3 USB ports, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, a multi-format card reader and a webcam. Acer claims that the laptop will get around 6 hours of battery life.

Pricing and availability
A version of Aspire One 522 with 2GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive has been listed by a Thai e-tailer for 12,829 baht (about $425). No word on pricing or availability in the US.
