Toshiba Portégé R700 with Core i3, i5 and i7 now available for purchase
Of all the laptops Toshiba introduced in the past week, the 13.3 inch Portégé R700 is probably the most interesting. This ultraportable notebook features a magnesium chassis that has been re-engineered in such a way that it aims to dissipate heat. Other features include a new chiclet style keyboard and a built-in optical drive. Better still, the Portégé R700 measures less than an inch in thickness and weighs only 3 pounds. Needless to say, Toshiba calls this machine the lightest 13.3 inch laptop ever.
The Toshiba Portégé R700 is available with Core i3, i5 and i7 processors. Three configurations are available. The Portégé R700-S1310 has a Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. It will retail for $999. The Portégé R700-S1320 features the Intel Core i5-520M processor and a 320GB, 7200rpm hard drive. It has a retail price of $1,299. The Portégé R700-S1330 features the powerful Intel Core i7-620M processor and a 128GB solid state drive. It will set you back $1,599.
There is also an exclusive Best Buy version (Portégé R705) with a Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. This model is available in Magnesium blue. It costs $899. The R705 features Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) technology for wirelessly connecting the notebook to an HDTV. It does not have an ExpressCard slot or docking capabilities.
The Toshiba Portégé R700 notebooks runs Windows 7 Professional. Other features include an ExpressCard slot, an eSATA/USB combo port with Sleep-and-Charge, an integrated built-in DVD SuperMulti drive and Webcam.
The Portégé R700 comes standard with a six-cell battery that should power the laptop for up to 8.5 hours. A 9-cell battery is also available as an option and it should get around 12.5 hours of run time.
